Yes. We should turn Northern Iowa into the next Ball State (chirp chirp) so they can make a few million dollars on football and end their financial crunch.

Oh, wait, that doesn't actually work. Ball State loses $13 million on its athletics program each year (2010 figure) despite its FBS football. Every one of the MAC football schools loses $10 million or more.

Matter of fact, NDSU had 30,000 at the METRODOME for gopher football game in 2009.

NDSU is a regional school, but these guys are right, nothing in south dakota.

NDSU should push MVC to add NDSU SDSU and make the football a FBS League. Money would come into the conference and bowl tie in's would help as well. Marketing/Exposure alone would help you Basketball Only fans as well.

Lakes..we had 25k at the dome(that is from our athletic department) and also nobody here cares. They might care that we brought a lot of fans to watch our basketball team play in the dance but not about football. Of course people here have said that countless times already so I'm not sure why I'm even reminding you at this point.

That 30k number is false and has been shot down by every NDSU fan not named lakesbison[/quote]

BULLL CRAP!! WATCH THIS "NDSU brought 30 grand to metrodome and rocked the house." ESPN SPORTSCENTER LEAD.

my point is, there is a ton of NDSU fans and we travel well. NDSU BASKETBALL 10,000+ at NCAA game at metrodome.

NDSU played Kansas State & Colorado State in front of 6500 at home, NDSU draws.

Don't know why you keep bringing up the NCAA tournament attendance figure.

A) Who cares
B) You will never get to the NCAA tournament in the MVC

N. Dakota St. Attendance for 2012 - 3,156
S. Dakota St Attendance for 2012 - 3,320

You all draw the equivalent attendance of a Thursday play-in school.

I am not as "anti" the Dakota schools as some. That said, any addition to the MVC has to do with one thing and one thing only---men's basketball.

If you have a good women's team? Good. You have a good volleyball team? Good for you. You win some softball games? Nice. None of it matters. If it did my beloved Bradley Braves wouldn't be in the league. This league is about men's basketball. We play men's basketball at the big boy level. Real arenas. Real players. Great history.

Now, I am not saying NDSU or SDSU can't get there--maybe they can. I think there is a LOT of money at both schools. But every single school in the MVC has basketball as it's #1 priority. MAYBE you could argue UNI is different but I don't think so. Doug Elgin couldn't even name the two teams that played in the MVC Football Championship game.

I would recommend any NDSU or SDSU fan to come to Arch Madness in St. Louis. You will get what I am talking about.

I also agree with others about the public/private thing. I don't see the remaining MVC private schools jumping on board to add two, large public institutions.

NDSU #67 SDSU #68 RPI both are 19-5 *both lost to Minnesota* NDSU to #1 Indiana.

so 19-3 without those. NDSU will have a new arena and a 5500-6000 attendence.

NDSU & SDSU has bigtime basketball teams and players, they can compete for top 4 spots in MVC.

PERIOD.

Translation:

If you discount all the good teams they played, NDSU is undefeated! NDSU is having its best year ever and have zero quality wins. Despite the small-time arena, with the small-time attendance, and the low major players NDSU is BIGTIME, and would dominate the Valley!

No exaggeration at all. The Sioux falls DMA from Wikipedia. It borders several states.

Sioux Falls is the largest city in the Sioux Falls-Sioux City, SD-IA-MN-NE Designated Market Area (DMA),with a population of 1,043,450. [10] C

We were averaging between 4-6k fans as a D2 team in the 1980s when we played meaningful games and rivals.. Since the D1 transition, we've seen a drop because we played an independent schedule and our conference stinks. Plus we have very few rivals. Although our conference attendance is typically betweem 4-5k.With a kick ass conference fans will turn out in droves. Couple that with a new arena and we will sell out every game. Fans want to see big draws and quality basketball. Teams like UMKC or IUPUI dont fit the bill. We have proven when the competition is good, we will draw .
