Dissolution of Mid Major Conferences

Postby ReZyNeZy » June 1st, 2025, 5:31 pm

Found this on twitter today. I know its full of malarkey, but was curious as to how good the MVC's position is at the moment given all that's happened or happening in college athletics. What are your thoughts fans?

Hard to imagine that a guy with only 600 followers has credible sources within the A10, MVC, Summit, Horizon, Ohio Valley, American, and Big East.

The Valley is in great shape simply because we're not real poachable. Our biggest threat of defection is programs choosing to move down rather than another league coming for our programs.

There's an advantage to having your three best long term successful programs in Des Moines, Peoria and Cedar Falls...

There's a Belmont caveat there but they'd have to go on a run of sustained success in this league.

So, some random guy on X (Twitter) says they saw something vague on their timeline….and we’re going to run with it?

I mean, it sure seems legit to me

Oh the twitter account is full of s***. But I just thought the question was interesting as to how good the MVC and other mid major conferences are doing in the current landscape. By no means should anyone take the guy at his word. Which is what I outlined in the origional post. The post was to pose the question of how people think the MVC and other mid major conferences are doing and who might dissolve and who might thrive.

Of course it's legit, it's twitter.......it's also the off-season so the non-sense ramps up.

Unless it's from Harold Aces Fan #1, don't believe it..lol

I think Drake & Belmont are candidates to move up if they keep winning in the near future. Illinois State is a candidate too if they think FBS football is more valuable to them.

It’s hard to read some of this “malarkey” — not talking about the original post on X — and not bust a gut lmao.

So let's say that half of the mid-majors drop out of the NCAA and start there own organization. I can see it working.First of all look at all the money the NCAA would lose.Correct me if I'm wrong,USI raised all the students fees they paid to go D1.Just a thought.

Where is Drake going to go? The Big East stuff is absolute Fantasy Land and the A10 isn't splitting the pie another way and adding big time travel cost to add Des Moines plus Drake doesn't really recruit regular students from the East Coast, their base is Chicago, Minneapolis and KC. The move doesn't make sense for either side.
